Dispatch from D.C.

I arrived in Washington last night just in time for the tail end of a great reception held by Google in their D.C. office. I have joined about 600 people from government, academia, business, nonprofits, media, and technology in Washington, D.C. for the inaugural Gov 2.0 Summit. This is the first major meeting with leaders to discuss and learn to adapt the online tools they use in everyday life to the work of government. It looks to be a very exciting time.

Invited speakers include:

Macon Phillips - Director of New Media: The White House
Aneesh Chopra - CTO: Federal Office of Science and Technology Policy
Vivek Kundra - U.S. Chief Information Officer: Office of Management and Budget
Vinton Cerf - Co-Inventor of TCP/IP: Google
Ellen Miller - Co-Founder and Executive Director: Sunlight Foundation
Susie Adams - Federal Civilian Chief Technology Officer: Microsoft Corporation
Clay Shirky - Writer and Consultant : shirky.com
Mark Drapeau - Associate Research Fellow: National Defense University
John Culberson - U.S. Congressman: 7th District of Texas
John Podesta - President and CEO: Center for American Progress
Craig Mundie - Chief Research and Strategy Officer: Microsoft Corporation
Casey Coleman - Chief Information Officer: U.S. General Services Administration
Jack Dorsey - Creator, Chairman and co-founder: Twitter

There are also many other great speakers and their bios listed on the Gov 2.0 Summit web site.

I will try to provide updates on Twitter throughout the event and post some photos. Yesterday's Gov 2.0 Expo event even became a trending topic reaching #10 :-) You can follow the updates from the Summit on Twitter here: Twitter #g2s
