Rapid Fire at Gov 2.0 Summit

During the first day's Rapid Fire session at the Gov 2.0 Summit we got a very quick paced overview of how users can create applications with government data in new ways for citizen use, how government agencies and non-profits can engage both outside and inside their agencies to improve performance and extend reach in achieving goals at a scale previously unattainable.

Adrian Holovaty (@AdrianHolovaty), from EveryBlock, cracked everyone up with "pdf's are the devil's spawns." Carol Dumaine who serves as head of the Energy and Environmental Security Directorate in the Office of Intelligence and Counterintelligence at the U.S. Department of Energy, gave a quick presentation on Energy and Environmental Security pressing the idea that environmental issues are national security issues.

I also especially liked Peter Corbett's (@Corbett3000) presentation - a 180 mile and hour review of some of their fantastic work at iStrategy Labs. The MeetUp Presentation by Scott Heiferman (@heif) was also quite interesting. The final presentation was from Michael Tiemann of Open Source Initiative and Red Hat.

Some really great stuff!
