Kojo Nnamdi One-on-One with Macon Phillips
Macon Phillips is the Director of New Media at the White House. Macon established three remarkable priorities in this new position: “Communication, Transparency (executive orders and proclamations will be published for everyone to review), and Participation (we will publish all non-emergency legislation to the website for five days, and allow the public to review and comment before the President signs it)”. Radio interviewer Kojo Nnamdi, considered one of the finest journalists and most influential people in Washington, DC, has covered the most important issues of the day along with the people making the news on his syndicated talk show. Each week, he devotes time to “Tech Tuesday”, which addresses how “Technology shapes society, and all the while, society is shaping technology. A typical Tech Tuesday always includes the political or social implications of any new innovation, and explores the unexpected ways in which change creeps (or steam rolls) into our lives”. This is a one-on-one conversation about how the White House is using new media – and what is different about working from inside government from the assumptions that people working on the outside take for granted. What regulations might need to change to make it easier for government to use social media effectively?
