School 2.0 @ the Gov 2.0 Summit: Data Driven Measurement of Education Practices

Secretary of Education Arne Duncan has recently made data driven improvements in education processes and delivery a priority. They want to ensure that there are metrics that are meaningful in this process, and cites "building data systems that measure student success and inform teachers and principals how they can improve their practices; and turning around our lowest-performing schools." Senior Advisor to the Secretary, Brad Jupp, told us what the Department is doing in this regard and how it sees the use of data to make major gains. He talked about making sure that teachers, parents, students and administrators have access to meaningful data that can be used to improve process. He outlines some of the success (and failure) he has had in Denver, as lessons to learn for possible ways forward.

It will take everyone working together to upgrade our educational system and keep us competitive in a global economy.
